Cream shortening, butter, and sugar together. Add vanilla. Add eggs and beat till fluffy. Sift flour. Measure and add salt, soda, and baking powder. Sift again. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Stir until dough is smooth. Chill in refrigerator for several hours. Roll out into ¼ inch thickness and cut in fancy shapes. Place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 400 for 8 - 10 minutes.
